Stub length carbide drill bits are general-purpose tools used for drilling in virtually all materials. They are also known as screw machine length drill bits. They are characterized by their straight shank which is the same diameter of the cutting edge, and a flute length which yields a drilling depth from 2 to 10.5 times the diameter of the bit. In general, these bits are shorter than jobber drills for 1/8" and larger. The flute helix is low at approximately 12-15 degrees. They also have a 135 degree point angle which is web thinned for diameters greater than .125". These drill bits are offered as uncoated tools and PVD AlTiN and TiN coated for increase wear and heat resistance. Carbide stub length drills are an excellent choice for small batch machining.
