What tap drill size for a M8x1.25?

A 17/64" drill bit (.2656" or 6.75mm diameter) is the correct drill bit size for a M8x1.25 tap or thread. The drill bit diameter is found by subtracting the thead pitch from the tap diameter (8mm-1.25mm=6.75mm).  Many charts round up to a 6.8mm (.2677" diameter) drill bit, but the availability of this size is rather limited and there are many 17/64" bits on the market.
